What is Reiki
As a Reiki Master/Teacher we practice and teach two types of Reiki at Phoenix Wellness they are Usui Reiki Ryoho which is an ancient Japanese technique, as well as the Tibetan methods. Bringing these styles together when can tailor each session specifically for you!
Reiki was re-discovered in the 19th century and is used for stress reduction and relaxation that also supports the body’s own healing process.
Reiki, pronounced “Ray-Key” is best described as, REI, meaning “universal” and CHI, the vital life force that flows through everything..
Reiki has achieved recognition and is often used in conjunction with traditional “western” modalities as a powerful and effective therapy.
It is administered by “laying hands on the body” and transferring energy to the areas of the body that need it. Its is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us, and if one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed, if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
If we compare the body’s energy flow to a river, when in good health our energy should flow easily within our body. Occasionally a pebble, or even a rock, will fall into that river and disturb the natural flow of the water. These pebbles represent our worries, fears, life experiences and sometime our unexpressed emotions. Each pebble builds on top of the one before and soon there is only a trickle of water running in that once free-flowing river. At this point, stress and or physical pain is usually heightened. A reiki treatment aims to help the body to restore the smooth energy flow within the body.
What can you expect?
You will be asked to lie on a massage table fully clothed. The practitioner will placed their hands on or just above the body in a sequence of positions. Unlike massage, a reiki treatment does not involve any form of physical manipulation.
During the session you may feel warm or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or rumbling of the tummy or you may feel nothing at all. Clients generally leave feeling relaxed, calm and energized. A complete reiki session will last 60 minutes.
Finally, Reiki is a self-empowering way of taking an active role in your own health and wellness.
